Poole BID, with support from a Town Centre Improvement Fund Grant from BCP Council, has commissioned a stunning new mural by local artist Tech Moon, bringing vibrancy and creativity to the underpass between The Lighthouse. Poole and Poole Bus Station.

The large-scale artwork, which is already generating excitement, will be completed by May 2025. It will celebrate Poole’s rich history and natural beauty, with one half of the tunnel dedicated to local heritage and the other to the area’s diverse wildlife. A striking red squirrel, symbolic of nearby Brownsea Island, has already made its appearance, with much more to come in the coming months.

Jacqui Rock, CEO of Poole BID, said:”This mural is a fantastic way to celebrate Poole’s unique heritage and stunning natural environment. We’re thrilled to see such a positive response already, and we know this will become a landmark for both residents and visitors. Public art has the power to transform spaces, and this project is a great example of how we can enhance our town centre while supporting local artists. Huge thanks to BCP Council for their funding support and to Tech Moon for bringing this vision to life.”

Tech Moon, the artist behind the mural, added:
“I’m incredibly excited to be working on this project and bringing a bold, creative vision to Poole’s underpass. The mural is designed to reflect both the history and nature of this amazing area, creating an immersive experience for those who pass through. Seeing the positive reaction so far has been inspiring, and I can’t wait for people to experience the full piece once it’s completed!”

The Town Centre Improvement Fund Grant is a one-time revenue grant allocated by BCP Council to enhance the vitality and attractiveness of the region’s town centres. In February 2024, the council received the grant from government, which was earmarked for projects that deliver long-term benefits to the town centres of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole.

The Grant supports enhanced public space Initiatives including showcasing local artists’ artwork in public areas and revitalising town centres with projects aimed at creating safer, more welcoming, and vibrant environments to encourage increased footfall and economic activity.

Poole BID is delighted to spearhead this particular initiative, recognising the value of public art in creating a more welcoming and engaging town centre.

As work progresses, they encourage residents and visitors to follow the mural’s development and witness the underpass evolve into a dynamic celebration of Poole’s identity.
