Tuesday 17 March 2026

Aidan Dunn, Chief Executive of BCP Council and Ballot Holder for this BID, today announced that the ballot for Poole Business Improvement District (BID) has been successful, with 83% of levy payers voting in favour of the proposed 2026–2031 Business Plan.

The result means Poole BID will continue to operate for a further term from 1 July 2026 to 31 March 2031, delivering projects funded through a 2.1% levy, generating approximately £350,000 per year for investment in Poole town centre.

For the ballot to succeed, two statutory tests had to be met:
a majority of businesses voting in favour by number, and a majority by total rateable value. Both thresholds were achieved.

Commenting on the result, Poole BID Chair Rob Brown said:

“We are pleased that levy payers have chosen to support a further term for Poole BID. This vote gives a clear mandate to continue delivering the priorities set out in the Business Plan, shaped directly by feedback from local businesses.”

Jacqui Rock, Chief Executive of Poole BID, added:

“This result reflects the value businesses place on having a coordinated, business-led organisation focused solely on Poole town centre. Our role now is clear: to deliver the programme set out in the Business Plan, transparently and effectively, and to continue working in partnership with businesses, BCP Council, Dorset Police and stakeholders across the town.”

The new term will focus on four key priority areas identified through consultation with over 480 levy-paying businesses:

  • A Safer, Stronger Poole
  • Pride in Place
  • Promoting Poole
  • Supporting Growth

Aidan Dunn, Chief Executive of BCP Council, said:

“Business Improvement Districts play an important role in supporting town centres. We welcome the outcome of the ballot and look forward to continuing to work with Poole BID and local businesses over the next term.”

The first levy invoices will be issued after 1 July 2026, with projects commencing in line with the published Business Plan.
