THE GREAT TAIL TRAIL
Starting 5 April 2025, Poole BID is excited to be part of The Great Tail Trail, a vibrant eight-week campaign supporting Julia’s House. This initiative is part of a wider BCP Council campaign, featuring more than 40 tails displayed across the region, with SIX tails in Poole Town alone.
Local artists will transform these tails into stunning works of art, turning the streets into an open-air gallery.
At the heart of Poole, a Poole BID-commissioned tail will sit in the High Street, complete with a QR code for visitors to access exclusive offers from local businesses.
To make it even more fun, we’re also creating a walking tour event to explore the stories behind each tail while discovering more of Poole. Stay tuned for more details on how you can get involved!

Hattie Miles
Hattie Miles has run a series of popular guided history walks and illustrated talks in the BCP area for the past ten years.
An experienced photographer and photojournalist, she’s lived in Bournemouth for nearly forty years. Her guided walks reveal quirky facts, unnoticed details and tell forgotten tales.
Join Hattie Miles for a walk to discover Poole’s Mermaid Tails that aim to raise vital funds for the Julia’s House Hospice.
Tours are complimentary with the option to donate to Julia’s House.
You will discover fascinating art, interesting history and quirky facts along the way as well as hearing a splash of mermaid legends.
Meet at Lighthouse Centre for the Arts in Kingland Road.
These walks last approximately 90 minutes and end at Poole Quay.

Be prepared: This moderate walk is mainly level and includes some cobbled streets and pavements.
Please wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. It is good to bring some water to drink,
particularly on a hot day. Poole bus and train stations and several pay carparks are a short walk from Lighthouse.
There is a nice café and loos at Lighthouse and various cafes and restaurants for refreshments at or near Poole Quay.
Why not end your walk with a boat ride to Brownsea Island.

By TRAIN
The main train line to Poole runs from London Waterloo to Weymouth operated by South Western Railway.
By CAR
Poole is linked by the A31 to the M27, and from there to the M3 and London. Head south on the A350 from Bristol, and east on the A35 from Exeter. Check the Travel Dorset website for latest updates.
By COACH
A regular coach service with National Express is available throughout the country and links towns, cities and airports offering shuttle services to Poole.
